We’re looking for a remote Python + Django developer to build web tooling for research scientists running weather simulations on a supercomputer.
The position is an initial 6 month full time contract with the potential to extend. We can onboard employees in the UK and Ireland, and contractors throughout the EEA.
Build tooling for research scientists working at the bleeding edge of weather forecasting.
Be part of a small team including a product manager and front end developers.
Work autonomously to solve problems and turn user requirements into code.
Work directly alongside users.
Design and develop new features from scratch.
Improve the codebase with refactoring, bug fixes, and optimization.
Contribute to the product strategy by combining your tech skills with your understanding of user needs.
Depth of experience using Python, Django, and Docker to build web app backends.
A sense of urgency: you’re a responsive communicator and work quickly.
An ability to thrive in ambiguity, tackling problems that might not be well defined and without obvious solutions.
You’re a fast learner.
Experience with end to end testing.
Fluency with Git, GitHub, and GitHub Actions.
You like to work remotely using Slack and Notion.
You’re comfortable with Kubernetes.
You’ve built government software before.
You’re familiar with static type checking, plus tooling like black, flake8, and isort.
