As a Director of Data, you will own and spearhead the establishment of centralized data governance, engineering, analytics enablement, and data science enablement. You will craft and execute a comprehensive data strategy, build and lead a remote data team, and design and maintain a robust data infrastructure. Your responsibilities will also include enabling advanced analytics for strategic decision-making and ensuring data privacy and compliance. Last year, we built a data stack and enabled our teams to explore our product and financial data for self-serve analytics purposes. Now the time is right to expand our data capability to cover more use cases. For example, we aim to implement more comprehensive and consistent event tracking to support developments in existing and new parts of our product. We also aim to apply more data science to those parts of the product, and our data team has a role in enabling that.
It will be the role of the Director of Data to build a focused data team covering data governance, data engineering, data analytics, and data science (including the enablement of Machine Learning models), with effective cross-functional collaboration with the Product and Engineering teams in which our data science capability is currently centered.
The Director of Data will report to the VP of Engineering, and collaborate with members of the Engineering team to embed the data capability.
TestGorilla has a big opportunity to harness its vast data to help candidates land their dream jobs and our customers identify the best talent. The Director of Data’s role is to unlock this data and support our team members, users, mission, and growth.
Developing and executing a comprehensive data strategy aligned with TestGorilla's business objectives.
Taking ownership of all internal and external data governance and processes, ensuring a single source of truth, availability, and understanding of the data.
Building and leading a remote data team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Providing mentorship and guidance to team members, promoting professional development.
Designing and maintaining a robust data infrastructure to enable building data products as well as company-wide analytics and reporting.
Leveraging advanced analytics tools to derive meaningful insights that drive strategic decision-making.
Collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand data needs and align product development, analytics, data science, and ML/AI efforts with business goals.
Communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Ensuring data privacy and compliance with relevant regulations, working closely with the DevSecOps team.
Implementing and maintaining best practices for data security and confidentiality.
Staying up-to-date on industry trends and emerging technologies, incorporating innovations into TestGorilla's data practices.
Driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of data processes.
You are inspired by our mission to place 1 billion people in dream jobs.
You are fully aligned with our values.
Proven experience in a leadership role overseeing and building data teams.
Strong background in data management and analytics.
Experienced in remote team management.
Proficiency across the data tool stack, incl. data warehouses, data modeling tools, ETL tools, and BI tools.
Familiarity with programming languages (e.g., Python, R) and SQL.
Experienced leadership and team management skills with clear communication and interpersonal abilities, particularly in a remote working environment.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Appetite to operate at 30,000 ft while also, at times, rolling up your sleeves.
Experience enabling ML models.
Familiarity with the HR technology space and an understanding of how data can contribute to successful hiring practices.
At TestGorilla, we envision a world where everyone has their dream job. To achieve that, employers and employees need to have the right information about each other.
We started in 2020 by building a screening platform that enables employers to evaluate candidates in the skills that matter most for success in a role. Our product replaces subjective, incomplete, and often inflated CVs with objective, reliable, and fair test results measuring aptitude, practical job skills, culture add, and motivation.
Improving and expanding this platform is our core focus at the moment, but it’s only the beginning of our journey to get everyone their dream job. Over time, we will launch more products that support this mission.
Last year, we secured $70m in Series A funding, co-led by the venture capital firms Atomico and Balderton Capital. The funding brings the company’s total investment to $80m following previous investments from Notion, Partech, and CapitalT. Chances are you’re familiar with some of our biggest customers, like the UK’s National Health Service, 3M, Sony, Oracle, PepsiCo, Bain & Company, and Deloitte.
We work remotely, spread across the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa.
We don’t offer rainbow glitter unicorns or dog-friendly offices (we literally don’t have an office), but we do offer real people, solid core values, and a product meant to give everyone a fair, unbiased chance at their dream jobs.
Here at TestGorilla, we eat our own dog food. We use our assessment platform to make sure we make the best hiring decisions faster and bias-free.
So if this role sounds like a good fit for you, I’d like you to take an assessment so we can get better understand whether you would fit the role. It’s also a great opportunity for you to get to know our product!
We encourage diverse applicants from a myriad of educational, work, and personal backgrounds to apply. We are a parent-friendly/caregiver-friendly employer who recognizes the importance of having a great life outside of work.
If you’re hired, I’ll do everything I can to help you succeed at TestGorilla and throughout your career.
