TestGorilla vs. Pixonality

Don’t leave hiring the best talent to chance

Relying solely on resumes and screening calls to shortlist applicants can lead to biases and put you at risk of missing out on the best talent.

Pre-employment assessments are a quick, cost-effective, and objective way to test candidates’ real-world skills and make data-driven hiring decisions. But with so many platforms on the market today, picking one can feel confusing and overwhelming.

We’re here to help. In this article, we compare TestGorilla and Pixonality, two popular assessment providers, so you can choose the right fit for your business needs.

How does TestGorilla work?

TestGorilla's new homepage

TestGorilla is a talent assessment platform with 400+ tests in its library. We cover a large range of tests, from personality type and situational judgment to cognitive ability and job-specific skills.

TestGorilla’s assessments are customizable, so you can make questions even more specific to your roles. Also, one-way video interviews provide the chance to delve into your candidates’ backgrounds in your own time.

Once tests are ready, you can invite candidates to take them via email, public links, or an applicant tracking system (ATS).

Full assessments take an average of 45 minutes to complete. Applicants can get started without a login and complete their assessments from any device, including laptops, tablets, and smartphones.

Through your owner, admin, or recruiter account, you can track and manage candidates, send test reminders, and share results with individuals or in bulk.

Once candidates complete assessments, you can view their results – including individual scores and percentile rankings – in your dashboard.

TestGorilla has a 28-step checklist that tests must pass before going live. We also employ other quality-control processes, such as reviewing and updating questions to meet our customers’ evolving needs, rotating questions from a bigger pool, and retiring them after reaching an exposure limit.

We have rigorous anti-cheating measures in place, too, such as IP address logging and the ability to track copy-pasted codes in coding tests.

How does Pixonality work?

Pixonality homepage screenshot

Pixonality brings together more than 100 tests supplied by a number of third-party companies.

You can browse them in Pixonality’s library under categories such as cognitive, personality, management, languages, and skills. You’ll find both individual tests and pre-made combination assessments that combine multiple tests into a single solution.

Assessment solutions are priced individually, but you can only purchase them by creating an account on Pixonality’s assessment management platform.

This platform also allows you to send candidate invitations in bulk, track candidate progress, and download reports.

Pixonality's website doesn’t mention its quality control and anti-cheating measures, but most third-party tests come from reputed assessment platforms.

TestGorilla vs. Pixonality: Test libraries

Both Pixonality and TestGorilla have large test libraries providing ready-made assessments for personality traits, cognitive abilities, job-specific skills, and more.

TestGorilla’s test library

TestGorilla’s 400+-strong test library outmatches most competitors with its range and quality.

Tests cover varying experience levels across categories, including:

  • Cognitive ability

  • Personality and culture

  • Language

  • Job-specific skills

  • Situational judgment

  • Programming and software

  • Typing speed

You can combine up to five tests in a single assessment and even add custom questions to tests. Depending on your plan, custom questions can accommodate several response types, including essay, multiple-choice, video, code, and file upload.

Each test is carefully designed and vetted by a team of intellectual property (IP) development specialists, subject matter experts, and professional copy editors to ensure it provides valid, reliable, and accurate results.

Tests are also regularly reviewed and updated to meet customers’ evolving needs. For instance, TestGorilla recently added several new tests to its library, including an AI Product Manager test, Kotlin Coding test, and HIPAA test.

Candidates can take tests in 12 languages, which is great for recruiting international teams.

Pixonality’s test library

Pixonality test library screenshot

Pixonality’s library aggregates 100+ tests from multiple third-party providers, such as Hogan, SHL, EPSI, Pearson, and more. While some tests are aimed at hiring, others are relevant for HR use cases, including leadership and internal promotion.

Pixonality’s partners offer tests across the following categories:

  • Personality

  • Cognitive

  • Management

  • Language

  • Skills

  • Combined (a mix of some or all of the above)

You can filter tests by provider, duration, and whether they require a Hogan Certification.

Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be an obvious way to customize tests or assessment combinations. Also, you can only set your tests to English or French, which could be limiting if you’re hiring globally.

TestGorilla vs. Pixonality: Pricing

Pre-employment assessment providers usually offer subscription plans with different pricing tiers, depending on hiring volumes.

Some plans include a specified number of assessments and candidate credits. Above these limits, you might have to pay extra or choose a pay-as-you-go model.

TestGorilla's new pricing screenshot

TestGorilla offers three pricing plans.

The free-forever plan is for companies of any size. With this plan, you can choose five free assessments and distribute them to unlimited candidates. You can also add up to five custom questions.

Our paid plans are priced based on the number of full-time equivalent (FTE) employees at your company. An FTE is any single person or combination of people working a full-time schedule. For example, someone working 40 hours per week is one FTE, while four people working 10 hours per week is also one FTE.

Depending on the size of your company, paid plans begin with:

  • Starter from $75 USD per month ($900 per year paid upfront for companies with 1-15 FTEs). Get full access to TestGorilla’s library plus custom question features.

  • Pro from $115 USD per month ($1,380 per year paid upfront for companies with 1-15 FTEs). Access all features in the Starter plan, plus ATS integrations, custom branding options, and video question features.

Pixonality’s pricing

Pixonality pricing homepage screenshot

Pixonality sells tests individually at differing prices, ranging from $22 to $2,100. Some Hogan Certification tests cost up to $3,300. Prices vary according to test type and complexity, job seniority level, and other factors.

Pixonality doesn’t specify if the test price is per candidate, for a set number of candidates, or for unlimited candidates.

It also isn’t clear whether its assessment management platform is free or paid. The company asks interested users to book a demo and learn more.

Test purchases are valid for six months. So, if you haven’t used your test or want to continue assessing candidates with the same test, you’ll have to repurchase it.

TestGorilla vs. Pixonality: Ease of use

An assessment platform is easy to use when the interface feels intuitive and contains features that save you time.

This not only improves the user experience for your team but can also increase the completion rates of your candidates.

TestGorilla’s ease of use

TestGorilla features a slick, modern interface that’s easy to navigate. You can quickly find account features, explore tests, and complete tasks. Plus, we recommend relevant tests by job title to make your life easier. And we enable you to add your company’s branding, logo, and intro or outro videos to assessments.

Our platform is accessible via desktops, laptops, tablets, and even mobile devices, and candidates don’t need to create an account to access their assessments or video interviews.

Further, candidates can access detailed instructions about taking tests and answer practice questions to get them comfortable. If they’re still confused, they can access our candidate guides or contact our support team for help.

Applicants can navigate assessments smoothly and complete them in an average of 45 minutes, with most individual tests taking as little as 15 minutes.

Finally, accessing assessment results is very straightforward. You can view all your candidates and their test results in your dashboard. Then, you can dive into individual reports, with the option to export them in PDF, CSV, or Excel format and share them with hiring team members.

Pixonality’s ease of use

You can browse Pixonality’s assessment solutions using filters such as duration and provider. You can also sort assessments by bestsellers, pricing, and title. However, without a search bar, categories, or subcategories, finding specific tests is difficult.

Moreover, although you can see test prices on the website, you can’t purchase them without speaking to the Pixonality team about creating an account.

That said, Pixonality has some convenient features, such as combined tests, sending candidate invitations in bulk, and letting applicants take tests from anywhere with an internet connection. However, the platform offers tests in only two languages, English and French, so it may not be suitable for an international hiring campaign.

Final thoughts: TestGorilla vs. Pixonality

TestGorilla and Pixonality are leading pre-employment assessment providers with a sizeable collection of tests in their libraries.

While TestGorilla creates its own science-backed tests with a meticulous quality-control process, Pixonality sells individual tests created by third-party companies. If you’re looking for a company with direct control over test content and quality, TestGorilla is the better option.

TestGorilla also has a broader range of test types than Pixonality, including software and programming skills assessments. It’s available in multiple languages and includes a one-way video interview feature.

Possibly the biggest difference between the providers is their ease of use. TestGorilla has a modern, intuitive interface that allows users to perform tasks quickly. Pixonality, on the other hand, doesn’t provide the smoothest user experience. Finding tests isn’t easy, and candidates can only take tests in English or French.

Overall, TestGorilla is the obvious choice for businesses of all sizes looking to improve their hiring process.
