Discover why TestGorilla leads the way in skills assessment

Pre-employment testing software helps you hire the best person for the job, every time. It enables you to evaluate the skills and qualities a candidate will bring to the job without the bias of resume reviews. This helps avoid costly mis-hires that might have you looking for a replacement sooner than you’d like.

Hiring the best candidate starts with finding the right screening software for your company. In this guide, we’ll compare TestGorilla and Pulsifi, two popular platforms in the pre-employment testing space.

How does TestGorilla work?

TestGorilla is a top-rated pre-employment testing platform with 400+ scientifically validated tests, covering personality type, role-specific skills, cognitive abilities, and much more.

TestGorilla homepage screenshot

You can combine tests and/or add your own questions to build a custom assessment for each open position in your company.

TestGorilla supports the hiring needs of every business, from fast-growing startups to established enterprises. We even offer a free plan so small businesses can get started with pre-employment testing at no cost.

How does Pulsifi work?

Pulsifi is a recruitment platform that offers automated hiring tools, psychometric assessments, and tools for interviewing applicants. It works alongside an applicant tracking system (ATS) and integrates with 31 ATS platforms.

Pulsifi offers three psychometric assessments and three cognitive assessments. It doesn’t support custom questions.

Pulsifi has four plans, but pricing is only available by contacting the company. It’s unclear whether Pulsifi tailors packages for companies of different sizes.

TestGorilla vs. Pulsifi: Test libraries

The range of tests available on your pre-employment screening platform determines the extent of the skills and qualities you can assess in candidates. So, it’s important to have access to a large number of tests across a wide range of testing categories.

TestGorilla’s test library

TestGorilla test library offers 400+ tests across categories such as:

  • Cognitive ability

  • Personality and culture

  • Programming skills

  • Software skills

  • Language proficiency

  • Job-specific skills

  • Situational judgment

TestGorilla test library

You can mix and match up to five tests for free to create custom assessments and even add your own questions.

TestGorilla supports many answer formats, including multiple-choice, text, audio, video, and file upload.

All tests are available in 12 languages, including Spanish, French, Chinese, and Italian.

Also, you can easily find and preview tests by entering a skill, role, or test type into the library’s search bar.

Plus, we’re always updating our library with new tests. For example, we recently added the Working with Generative AI test for employers looking for candidates with solid prompt engineering skills and familiarity with custom AI tools.

Pulsifi’s test library

TestGorilla vs Pulsifi 02 Tests

Pulsifi offers three psychometric assessments:

  • Personality discovery

  • Work interest discovery

  • Work culture discovery

And three cognitive ability assessments:

  • Verbal reasoning

  • Logical reasoning

  • Numerical reasoning

Users can’t add custom questions to these assessments.

However, they can set up one-way video interviews with candidates that include custom interview questions.

Pulsifi first asks recruiters to prioritize qualities for the job they’re hiring for. Then, the platform calculates a “fit score” for each candidate based on their answers

Pulsifi doesn’t offer software or skills tests. Employers also can’t combine assessments, although they can issue multiple assessments to each candidate.

TestGorilla vs. Pulsifi: Video interviews

Video interviews enable your hiring team to learn more about a candidate prior to bringing them into your office for an in-person interview.

For remote or international hiring campaigns, one-way video interviews can be a game-changer, and video responses to test questions help you get a better picture of the candidate as a whole.

TestGorilla’s video interviews

TestGorilla offers one-way video interviews and the option to add custom video questions to any assessment. You can present questions through text, audio, or video, then require candidates to record a video response.

To make it easy to review the responses in bulk, you can limit the length of video answers to 30, 60, or 120 seconds and cap the number of recording attempts a candidate can make. This way, you can interview quickly, effectively, and at scale.

You can play back video interviews on any device for added convenience. TestGorilla also has the option to leave ratings and comments on video responses, supporting collaborative evaluation.

Pulsifi’s video interviews

Pulsifi lets you create custom questions that candidates must answer by recording a video response. However, you can’t add these video response questions to the pre-made psychometric or cognitive ability assessments.

Pulsifi doesn’t specify whether you can limit candidates’ response lengths or recording attempts. You can view responses on any device, but there’s no way to add ratings or comments to video interviews.

TestGorilla vs. Pulsifi: Candidate experience and company branding

A great hiring experience is key to ensuring candidates remain in your hiring funnel instead of dropping out, meaning you don’t lose out on top talent.

Your pre-employment screening software should alleviate friction for applicants by being conveniently accessible from anywhere, on any device, ideally without having to log in to the platform.

The candidate experience with TestGorilla

TestGorilla is proud to provide an excellent hiring experience for applicants.

You start by sending personalized invitations to each candidate to take your assessment. Candidates can take assessments at any time and on any device without creating a TestGorilla account, so there are no interruptions.

Each test takes just 10-15 minutes to complete – a modest time commitment for candidates who are serious about working for your company.

If your candidates have any questions about an assessment or TestGorilla’s platform, they can contact our support team by support ticket or email.

You can also personalize your assessments with your company’s brand colors and logo, creating a consistent sense of professionalism within the process.

Candidates taking coding tests can also use our configurable IDE to set up their workstation: light or dark mode, window and font sizes – whatever suits their preferences. And candidates who complete assessments in English are redirected to create a TestGorilla Profile to view their results.

You can also add a custom intro and outro video to your assessments.

The candidate experience with Pulsifi

Pulsifi doesn’t offer personalized invitations, and candidates must create a Pulisifi account to take an assessment.

Each test takes 5-15 minutes to complete and can be done on any device. Pulsifi doesn’t specify whether candidates have access to live support, but they can visit the candidate app help center for answers to FAQs.

You can’t add your brand colors, logo, or intro and outro videos to assessments.

TestGorilla vs. Pulsifi: Enterprise and startup friendliness

Whatever your company’s size, you’ll always need some level of recruitment. So, pre-employment screening platforms should cater to every business, from startups to enterprises.

TestGorilla’s enterprise and startup friendliness

TestGorilla offers a range of features and multiple pricing options to suit different hiring levels across businesses of all sizes.

Our Free plan is perfect for small businesses that only need to hire a few new employees each year and those that are new to pre-employment testing.

Meanwhile, our two paid plans offer access to TestGorilla’s entire test library, with more assessments added each year. There’s also a fully customizable plan for large enterprises.

TestGorilla is GDPR compliant and integrates with multiple ATS platforms, including Greenhouse, SmartRecruiters, and JazzHR. You can also use an API to integrate your pre-employment screening into a custom hiring platform.

TestGorilla enables you to create unique links for every job board you post to, making it easy to track how candidates find out about your open positions. You can also send out assessment invitations in bulk, ideal for large-scale hiring campaigns.

Our software is available in 12 languages, making it easy for your company to hire talent from around the globe. This is especially helpful if your business has offices in multiple countries.

Pulsifi’s enterprise and startup friendliness

Pulsifi doesn’t provide information about its pricing, so it’s difficult to determine what volume of hiring the platform is suitable for.

It integrates with 31 ATS platforms but doesn’t offer an API for custom integrations. You can send public links to an assessment to individual candidates or in bulk, but you can’t create unique links for each job board to track where candidates came from.

Finally, Pulsifi offers localized websites in English, French, and Indonesian.

TestGorilla vs. Pulsifi: Quality control

Quality-control features are essential to ensure that your pre-employment screening assessments are based on trustworthy data and incorporate feedback from experts.

TestGorilla’s quality-control processes

TestGorilla quality control screenshot

TestGorilla follows a 28-step quality control process, working with subject-matter experts, peer reviewers, copywriters, and sample testers to ensure all tests are scientifically validated before launch. In addition, we use proprietary algorithms that collect feedback from hiring teams and applicants to continuously improve each test’s quality.

TestGorilla also replaces test questions after 10,000 uses. This prevents questions from being overexposed, which could compromise the integrity of the tests.

Pulsifi’s quality-control processes

TestGorilla vs. Pulsifi: Anti-cheating measures

Anti-cheating measures prevent any candidate from having an unfair advantage during your hiring process. These measures are important for you to trust the results of your assessments and make the right hiring decisions.

TestGorilla’s anti-cheating measures

TestGorilla takes cheating extremely seriously and implements numerous measures to prevent it, including:

  • Replacing questions after 10,000 uses to prevent candidates from researching answers online

  • Disabling copy-paste functionality to prevent candidates from leaking questions or pasting answers from elsewhere

  • Randomizing questions for each assessment

  • The option to set time limits for assessments

  • Alerting you if a candidate opens another window during an assessment

  • IP-address tracking

  • Recording a candidate’s screen or taking snapshots of their webcam (with their permission)

Pulsifi’s anti-cheating measures

Pulsifi doesn’t offer skills tests, but cheating is still a concern during cognitive ability tests.

However, Pulsifi doesn’t cycle questions or disable copy and paste.

During tests, there’s also no time limit and no alerts if a candidate opens another window. This makes it difficult to prevent candidates from researching answers during an assessment.

TestGorilla vs. Pulsifi: Reporting and analytics

Reporting and analytics tools enable you to make good hiring decisions based on your assessment results. The ability to rank candidates’ performances on specific tests helps you quickly decide which applicants to move forward with.

TestGorilla’s reporting and analytics features

An example of TestGorilla’s reporting and analytics features

TestGorilla offers detailed reports that show how each candidate performed on your assessment. You can see their overall ranking, individual test scores, and responses to each question.

With our Candidate PDF Reports, for example, users get insights into candidates' strengths and weaknesses in a specific area and share the results with other team members.

You can also rank candidates side by side based on their performance and see exactly where each candidate is in the hiring process at any time. Our filters let you compare them based on their test scores, responses to custom questions, and answers to multiple-choice questions.

With weighted scoring, you can customize the impact each test has on the final score. This way, tests that aren’t as important to your role won’t affect the final score as much as more essential tests do.

Using our filters , you can easily compare candidates based on their test scores, responses to custom questions, and answers to multiple-choice questions.

TestGorilla also makes it easy to add notes to reports so you can collaborate with your hiring team. You can also export reports in XLSX or CSV format or share to your ATS.

Pulsifi’s reporting and analytics features

TestGorilla vs Pulsifi 04 Results

Pulsifi generates a report for each candidate. For psychometric assessments, reports offer a single “fit score” based on the most important qualities for that position. For cognitive ability assessments, reports show candidates’ performance across three categories: logical reasoning, verbal reasoning, and numerical reasoning.

You can’t compare candidates side by side but can compare each applicant’s category scores to the averages across all your applicants. You can also share a link to a candidate’s report with your colleagues but can’t export data to a PDF or Excel file. However, you can share it to an integrated ATS platform.

There’s currently no way to add notes to a candidate report.

TestGorilla vs. Pulsifi: Pricing

Pre-employment software should offer flexible pricing options so you only pay for the tools and features your business needs.

Popular pricing models include pay as you go, annual, or monthly subscription plans, and candidate credit systems where the price depends on how frequently you hire.

TestGorilla’s pricing

TestGorilla’s user interface and ease of use

TestGorilla prioritizes an outstanding user experience for recruiters, hiring managers, and candidates. The software is easy to navigate, and the learning curve is short.

To help you build the perfect assessment, TestGorilla automatically suggests tests to include based on the title of the role you’re hiring for. You can add tests to an assessment and create custom questions with just a few clicks.

TestGorilla also offers a wide range of management tools for large-scale hiring campaigns, including bulk invitations, unique links for each job board, and candidate tracking with your ATS platform.

You can also find each candidate’s score on their candidate results page, with the option to see their percentile score.

Plus, to make it easier to collaborate within hiring teams, you can add notes and comments to one-way video interviews and candidate reports within TestGorilla.

Pulsifi’s user interface and ease of use

Pulsifi enables you to send out bulk candidate invitations using your ATS platform. Users can share candidate reports with their hiring team and see which assessments each candidate has taken.

However, Pulsifi doesn’t allow you to add custom questions outside of one-way video interviews. You also can’t comment on candidates’ responses or reports, so it’s harder to collaborate with your hiring team.
