9 Vervoe alternatives for a streamlined hiring process

9 Vervoe alternatives for a streamlined hiring process

Vervoe alternatives
Share

Vervoe is a popular AI-powered hiring platform which helps you evaluate candidates’ skills through an automated skills-testing and interviewing process.

It aims to predict job performance and help you make data-driven hiring decisions, but like any tool, it comes with its own set of limitations (more on that in a bit), which might lead you to look into other options.

To help you make the right decision, we’ve compiled a list of the nine best Vervoe alternatives and analyzed the pros and cons of each.

Vervoe’s limitations: Why switch to a different tool?

Before we talk about the other platforms you could use instead of Vervoe, let’s see what its limitations are – and why some businesses might get better results with a different tool.

What are Vervoe's limitations graphic

Not as customizable as other platforms

Some of the complaints we encountered were the lack of comprehensive customization options – including the possibility to anonymize test results to reduce bias.

Vervoe does enable hiring managers to create job-specific assessments and tailor questions to various roles, but other platforms often offer more granular customization and integration options, enabling you to tailor your skills testing platform to your specific needs.

Unreliable audio and video recordings on the candidate side

According to G2 reviews, candidates report issues with video and audio recordings when they use Vervoe, potentially more frequently than with other platforms.

Vervoe seems to require an excellent internet connection to function properly, and if your candidate experiences connectivity issues, you might receive only a part of their video answers.

Insufficient integration options

If you’re looking for a platform that integrates with your HR technology stack efficiently, Vervoe might not be your best bet. Some users report that its integration options are insufficient, and, for the integrations that exist, not comprehensive enough.

1. TestGorilla: Best for its 360° talent assessments

With the 400+ tests it offers, TestGorilla is a top choice if you want to do a comprehensive talent assessment of each of your candidates or employees. The platform enables you to evaluate candidates’ cognitive abilities, cultural alignment, behavior, soft skills, and technical expertise for hundreds of job roles.

Regardless of whether you’re hiring a software development team or staff for your hotel, you’ll find the right tests to evaluate applicants’ skills, ranging from Python and MySQL to Hospitality and Motivation.

A screenshot of TestGorilla’s Motivation test page

With our Motivation test, you can check whether candidates’ expectations match what you offer.

You can combine up to five tests in a single assessment, meaning that you can assess multiple skills at once and identify the candidates who truly have what it takes to be successful.

Contrary to Vervoe, it offers plenty of customization options and an automated grading system, meaning that you don’t need to grade tests manually or to train an AI to grade your tests. You can add your own branding, an intro, and an outro video to the assessments for a memorable candidate experience

You can also anonymize candidates to further reduce hiring biases, which is an option that Vervoe doesn’t offer.

With our Free forever plan, you can try out the platform immediately – or you can sign up for a free live demo to chat with one of our experts.

G2 rating: 4.5/5

  • 400+ tests for cognitive ability, programming skills, role-specific skills, language proficiency, personality, and more

  • Automated grading and in-depth performance analytics features

  • Asynchronous video interviews

2. Mercer Mettl Assessments: Best for its proctoring features

Mercer Mettl Assessments is a good alternative to Vervoe if you’re looking for excellent proctoring and anti-cheating measures. Among the platform’s clients are not only businesses but also educational institutions, which are known for their extensive anti-cheating requirements.

A screenshot from Mercer Mettl’s website, showing the different proctoring features of the platform

The platform’s anti-cheating features include email and ID verification, record and review options, and even live proctoring.

Thanks to its wide variety of tests, Mercer Mettl offers you the possibility to conduct an in-depth assessment of candidates’ behavior, technical knowledge, and soft skills.

Among the downsides users noted is the fact that the platform might take a while to get used to, especially if you want to set up custom assessments. Plus, its pricing options aren’t publicly available, meaning that you need to contact its sales team to get a quote.

Check out how Mercer Mettl Assessments compares to TestGorilla.

G2 rating: 4.4/5

Pros:

  • Excellent proctoring features

  • Live chat and phone assistance

  • A wide variety of skills tests for technical abilities, programming skills, and soft skills

  • Assessments available in different languages

Cons:

  • Custom assessments take time and effort to build

  • No publicly available pricing information

Free trial: Yes

Pricing: Custom pricing, contact sales for more information

3. Codility: Best for its in-depth programming tests

If you’re looking to hire developers and software engineers, Codility is a good choice, thanks to its wide variety of coding assessments at different difficulty levels. That enables you to adapt your hiring process to the seniority level of each role and get an accurate evaluation of candidates’ skills.

Codility’s tests replicate real-life scenarios, which helps evaluate applicants’ practical skills in solving programming challenges. One of the features that make it stand out is its live coding interview option, enabling you to gather deeper insights into candidates’ coding skills and their thought process.

Costing $1,200 annually (i.e. $100 per month), Codility is also one of the more affordable skills testing platforms. However, if you need to evaluate applicants’ non-technical skills or hire for other roles, some of the alternatives to Codility might serve you better.

Codility’s Starter plan costs $1200 annually, making it a good option for small businesses and startups

G2 rating: 4.6/5

Pros:

  • Live coding interviews and coding tests for over 40 programming languages

  • Strong customization options

  • Candidates can use it to improve their skills

  • Automated grading

Cons:

  • Limited quality control of tests

  • No cognitive and soft skills tests

Pricing: Starting from $1,200/year

Free trial: Yes

4. TestDome: Best for its wide variety of tests

With TestDome, you can evaluate hard and soft skills for many different business functions, ranging from programming and software development to accounting and from UX design to sales and marketing. You have the possibility to customize test questions, but it’s not possible to create your own tests from scratch.

According to TestDome’s website, many of the questions are AI-resistant, which guarantees a more fair assessment of candidates’ skills.

TestDome claims some of its questions are AI-resistant.

The pricing options are flexible, enabling you to pay only for the number of applications you need to evaluate, rather than buy a monthly subscription.

Its test library is not as large as TestGorilla’s, and you cannot use it to assess candidates’ personality traits and behavior. See how TestDome compares to TestGorilla or check out the best TestDome alternatives

G2 rating: 4.5/5

Pros:

  • Flexible pricing options

  • Large variety of role-specific tests

  • Live coding interviews

Cons:

  • No custom branding features

  • No bulk candidate invitations

Free trial: Yes

Pricing: $20 per candidate for a minimum of 5 candidates

5. HackerEarth Assessments: Best for organizing hackathons

If you’re looking to hire software developers and engineers, HackerEarth Assessments is one of the top choices out there. With it, you can design your own hackathons and coding challenges and attract top international talent from its 7.6 million developer community. This can be particularly useful if you’re hiring remotely.

You can also use it not just to screen and interview applicants but also to upskill your development team, thanks to its assessments with tailored learning paths.

You can use the platform for 14 days for free, enabling you to test it before you buy a subscription. Its pricing options start at $209 per month, but come with only 20 invites – and for live interviews, you need to pay separately. If you need to hire at scale, the platform might quickly become quite expensive.

If you’re looking to assess candidates’ full range of skills, including cognitive ability and soft skills, you cannot do this with HackerEarth Assessments. For this, TestGorilla might be a better fit. See how TestGorilla and HackerEarth compare.

G2 rating: 4.5/5

Pros:

  • The possibility to build your own hackathons and coding challenges

  • Live coding interviews (at an extra cost)

  • You can use it to upskill your dev team

  • Skills tests come at different difficulty levels

Cons:

  • Can be expensive if you’re hiring at scale

  • No ATS integrations for its basic plan

Free trial: Yes

Pricing: Starting at $209/month

6. iMocha: Best for its large test library

One of the things that make iMocha stand out is its large test library. It features assessments for over 3,000 skills and 1,500 job roles. Its user interface is easy to navigate, which helps streamline the hiring process for hiring managers and applicants alike.

It offers excellent upskilling features, so if you’re currently looking to build a strong learning and development function at your organization, iMocha is a good choice. It has strong anti-cheating and analytics features, too, and it offers a line of professional services tailored to the needs of HR departments.

A screenshot of iMocha website showing the services the company offers

iMocha’s services enable HR professionals to implement the platform quickly and make sure they’re making the most of it

On the downside, it does little in terms of quality control of its tests – there are no question-exposure limits and it doesn’t collect feedback from recruiters or candidates to improve test accuracy. If that’s important to you, check out the iMocha alternatives that are worth considering.

G2 rating: 4.4/5

Pros:

  • You can use it to assess more than 3,000 skills, including soft skills and cognitive abilities

  • A strong offering of professional services, including personalized trainings

  • Good customer support  (incl. via phone)

  • Customer support for candidates

  • Asynchronous and live interviews

Cons:

  • No pricing information available on the website

  • No free plan or free trial

Free trial: No

Pricing: No information on iMocha’s website

7. Spark Hire: Best for for its streamlined video interviews

Looking for a simple and easy-to-use platform for video interviews? Spark Hire is one of the options you should consider.

It offers little in the way of skills testing, so if you’re looking to evaluate candidates before you invite them to an interview, you might want to combine it with another software tool – but for video interviews (including asynchronous video interviews), it’s a very good choice.

The platform provides you with ready-made one-way interviews you can use to start hiring immediately, enabling you to get a quick overview of your talent pool before you commit to one-on-one interviews.

Users – hiring managers and interviewees alike – like the platform for how easy it is to set up.

G2 rating: 4.8/5

Pros:

  • Ready-made asynchronous interviews that you can personalize

  • Live interview features

  • Simple and intuitive user interface

  • Rate, comment, and tag interviews

Cons:

  • No skills tests

Free trial: Yes

Pricing: Starting at $149/month

Spark Hire offers flexible pricing options and a free trial.

8. The Predictive Index: Best for its comprehensive behavioral assessments

The Predictive Index is a talent optimization platform, but you can also use it for your hiring needs. For this, you need to use the Predictive Index’s Validated Hiring module (also known as PI Hire).

This module helps you make sure that your entire hiring team is on the same page when it comes to defining top qualities to look for in candidates. It offers behavioral and cognitive assessments and gives you insights into applicants’ cultural alignment with your organization. Users love how short and accurate its behavioral assessments are.

However, it doesn’t offer that much in the way of tests for hard skills, which are essential for many job roles. Plus, its price tag – annual subscriptions start at $4,950 – might make it prohibitive for smaller companies.

Find out how The Predictive Index and TestGorilla compare.

G2 rating: 4.8/5

Pros:

  • Excellent behavioral and cognitive assessments

  • Talent management and optimization features

  • 7-day free trial

  • Unlimited users

Cons:

  • The platform might take a while to get used to

  • One of the more expensive options out there

Free trial: Yes, for 7 days

Pricing: Starting at $4,950 annually

9. HireVue: Best for its AI-assisted video interviews

HireVue is another video interviewing platform similar to Spark Hire, but with an integrated AI for a more streamlined talent assessment process. Candidates need to answer questions by recording a time-limited video. The platform then analyzes responses and ranks the submissions you receive based on candidates’ vocabulary, expressions, voice, and body language.

According to its creators, that helps eliminate bias in hiring, however not all candidates might be comfortable with an AI-assisted interviewing and ranking system. In fact, AI can be biased and introduce and perpetuate existing societal biases – so, you need to tread carefully when implementing AI-first hiring solutions into your recruitment process.

Check out the best HireVue alternatives for more options and see how HireVue compares to TestGorilla.

G2 rating: 4.1/5

Pros:

  • Streamlined platform for AI-assisted video assessments

  • Standardized, job-specific interviews

  • Intuitive user interface

Cons:

  • Not all candidates are comfortable with AI-assisted videos

  • Can be prohibitively expensive – pricing options start at $35,000

  • No free trial

Free trial: No

Pricing: Starting at $35,000
