About the Coding: Entry-Level Algorithms test

Perl is one of the programming languages covered in our Coding: Entry-Level Algorithms test. Testing for Perl entry-level algorithms skills allows employers to identify candidates who are not only technically competent but also capable of tackling challenges efficiently, adapting to various programming scenarios, and contributing to diverse projects.

These skills are particularly valuable for roles that require rapid development, extensive data manipulation, and cross-platform compatibility.

For entry-level programmers, a strong foundation in at least one programming language is essential for success. Candidates who are familiar with core programming concepts will be well-equipped to tackle more complex programming challenges.

This entry-level programming challenge assesses candidates' ability to program a small algorithm, testing their basic programming skills. This language-agnostic challenge can be completed in any one of the coding languages supported in our platform. It is up to the employer to configure the language or languages they want to enable for the challenge when they set up the assessment.

As an employer, you may choose the programming language or languages that match your organization’s needs and requirements. As a candidate, you can choose from the programming languages enabled for the challenge by your prospective employer to select the one in which you are most comfortable and best able to showcase your strengths.

This test gives candidates enough time to complete a simple coding task involving entry-level algorithms. The code is evaluated against a set of test cases and scored accordingly. Candidates are also encouraged to create their own test cases to help determine if they are on the right track.

This test is an excellent tool for screening candidates based on their foundational programming knowledge. It can be used to effectively evaluate a candidate's essential skills and determine their potential for further professional growth.

We recommend combining coding tests with at least one of our cognitive ability tests evaluating numerical or analytical skills to better understand a candidate's abilities.

TestGorilla Team

This coding challenge has been developed by TestGorilla's team of software development experts. As with all the tests in our test library, it will continue to be evaluated for continuous improvement in line with our standardized revision process.

Crafted with expert knowledge

TestGorilla’s tests are created by subject matter experts. We assess potential subject-matter experts based on their knowledge, ability, and reputation. Before being published, each test is peer-reviewed by another expert, and then calibrated using hundreds of test takers with relevant experience in the subject.

Our feedback mechanisms and unique algorithms allow our subject-matter experts to constantly improve their tests.

What our customers are saying

TestGorilla helps me to assess engineers rapidly. Creating assessments for different positions is easy due to pre-existing templates. You can create an assessment in less than 2 minutes. The interface is intuitive and it’s easy to visualize results per assessment.

Any tool can have functions—bells and whistles. Not every tool comes armed with staff passionate about making the user experience positive.

The TestGorilla team only offers useful insights to user challenges, they engage in conversation.

For instance, I recently asked a question about a Python test I intended to implement. Instead of receiving “oh, that test would work perfectly for your solution,” or, “at this time we’re thinking about implementing a solution that may or may not…” I received a direct and straightforward answer with additional thoughts to help shape the solution.

I hope that TestGorilla realizes the value proposition in their work is not only the platform but the type of support that’s provided.

For a bit of context—I am a diversity recruiter trying to create a platform that removes bias from the hiring process and encourages the discovery of new and unseen talent.
