This Python coding test evaluates candidates’ ability to work with arrays. The test gives candidates 30 minutes to create a short algorithm involving arrays while taking into consideration all the requirements provided.
Working with arrays
Developers with practical experience using Python.
Python is a high-level, general-purpose language that can be used in anything from web development to data science and machine learning. As an open-source programming language with a strong community, Python offers an expansive library of resources such as web frameworks, testing instruments, and data analysis tools.
One of the skills required of good Python developers is working with arrays. Arrays are special variables that hold collections of related values. Arrays allow developers to work with a large number of variables quickly and efficiently.
This test assesses candidates’ skills in working with Python arrays. The test provides candidates with a task description in the appropriate context and specifies the algorithms that need to be developed and the requirements to satisfy. It also provides a few examples to illustrate how the function should behave and asks candidates to solve the task. You can see a complete and functional example of a task by clicking the “preview questions” tab on this page.
Candidates can run their code to see if certain pre-defined inputs return the expected result. The test is scored automatically using a different set of test cases, which include more challenging corner cases. Once the test is complete, you can inspect the code of the candidate and play it back to interpret their thought process. You can also see the efficiency of the code shown in the results.

TestGorilla’s tests are created by subject matter experts. We assess potential subject-matter experts based on their knowledge, ability, and reputation. Before being published, each test is peer-reviewed by another expert, then calibrated using hundreds of test takers with relevant experience in the subject.
Our feedback mechanisms and unique algorithms allow our subject-matter experts to constantly improve their tests.
TestGorilla helps me to assess engineers rapidly. Creating assessments for different positions is easy due to pre-existing templates. You can create an assessment in less than 2 minutes. The interface is intuitive and it’s easy to visualize results per assessment.
VP of engineering, mid-market (51-1000 FTE)
Any tool can have functions—bells and whistles. Not every tool comes armed with staff passionate about making the user experience positive.
The TestGorilla team only offers useful insights to user challenges, they engage in conversation.
For instance, I recently asked a question about a Python test I intended to implement. Instead of receiving “oh, that test would work perfectly for your solution,” or, “at this time we’re thinking about implementing a solution that may or may not…” I received a direct and straightforward answer with additional thoughts to help shape the solution.
I hope that TestGorilla realizes the value proposition in their work is not only the platform but the type of support that’s provided.
For a bit of context—I am a diversity recruiter trying to create a platform that removes bias from the hiring process and encourages the discovery of new and unseen talent.
